水面初平雲脚低

North of Orphan Mountain Temple,
West of Chia's Pavilion,
The water's surface
Grows placid for the first time.
Clouds hand low; here and there
Early nightingales fight for warm trees.
At somebody's house a young swallow
Chews earnestly on spring mud.
Bewitching flowers bloom in wild disorder;
A horse's footprint
Barely sinks into low grass.
The place I most love
Is where I never tire of strolling,
There in the shadows of green willows
Among the white sand dikes.
